A must-do tour when in Amsterdam!

We visited all the most important locations like Dam Square and Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal. We heard the stories about the Holocaust that really gave us a lot to think about. The Anne Frank Monument made a lasting impression on me...This tour is a must when in Amsterdam!

Great tour with fantastic guide Jacob!

The tour gave such a detailed overview of Anne Frank’s life. Our guide, Jacob, was great. He explained the significance of each stop, like the Jewish quarter and sites connected to the resistance. The small group also enhanced the experience as we were able to interact with him freely. I would recommend this tour to anyone interested in Anne Frank’s story and WWII history.

DESCRIPTION

Anne Frank House Tickets

WALK THROUGH AMSTERDAM’S WWII HISTORY

Your tour will start in the heart of Amsterdam, where a guide will give you a detailed account of life in the city during World War II. After a brief introduction, you’ll head to Dam Square, which was the center of Nazi occupation during World War II. Here, you’ll discover how the square was used for both the catastrophic events of May 1940, when German bombs destroyed a large portion of the city center, and public demonstrations of power. The guide will introduce the Frank family and talk about how they navigated life under Nazi rule.

SEE KEY WWII LANDMARKS

The walking tour will continue through Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal 120 and de Silveren Spiegel, with your guide telling you about Jewish life and the remarkable work of the Dutch resistance. Hear about the impact of Nazi occupation on Amsterdam’s Jewish community and businesses in districts like Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal. At Blauwburgwal, discover how ordinary citizens put their lives in danger to conceal Jewish families, frequently in small, hidden areas. You’ll also see the Anne Frank Monument, which honors a girl whose diary continues to educate millions about the Holocaust.

ANNE FRANK’S HOUSE

The tour will end in front of the Anne Frank House, where Anne and her family hid for over two years in a hidden annex. You will learn about their everyday lives in hiding and the betrayal that resulted in their arrest by Nazis in 1944. Anne’s original red-checkered diary, one of the most famous artifacts of WWII, is preserved in the house as a symbol of hope and resilience.

Interesting facts about Anne Frank's life

Anne was just a nickname

Anne Frank’s full name was Annelies Marie Frank, though she was mostly known by her nickname, Anne.

The gift that changed history

Anne’s iconic red-checkered diary was gifted to her on her 13th birthday on June 12, 1942, just weeks before her family went into hiding.

Birthdays in hiding

Anne spent her 14th and 15th birthdays in hiding. Despite the circumstances, she still received birthday gifts such as books and a touching poem from her father, preserving her spirit with these small joys.

Anne’s imaginary confidante

Anne addressed her diary entries to “Kitty”, a name she used for a fictional confidante. While some say it was inspired by a childhood friend, its true origin remains unknown.

Two versions of the diary

Anne wrote two versions of her diary. The second, started in 1944, was inspired by a radio call for people to preserve wartime records. The second version added new sections and omitted some entries, showcasing her evolving perspective.
